a window, a door and a protected corner
What features does a "room for a poet", 2000, need? Cabrita Reis says: a window, a door and a protected corner.
When discussing his "buildings", therefore, Cabrita Reis continually talks about feelings and emotions, intimations or longings, fears and doubts as well as about the confrontation with reality and about the stimulation of awareness that all his works are intended to serve.
For example, he says: "As an artist and speaking in a completely philosophical sense, I am interested in one of people's fundamental activities: the act of building. For this special reason, I am especially touched by materials that have a memory. I see myself as someone who creates ambivalences and ambiguity, as a conveyor of memories. Primary sociological and political questions do not interest me particularly. Art that is produced in this context reduces the complexity and depth of its interaction with the observer. In art, the aim is not to ask questions but to make statements."
