"Ormond Gigli is renowned for his images of theater, celebrities, dance, exotic persons and places but he is best known for the self-assigned, international award-winning image "Girls in the Windows" which he shot in 1960.
Gigli gathered 41 models together, all without pay, and persuaded them to stand in the windows of four brownstones across from his E58th street studio the day before the buildings were demolished.
There was a snag: the windows were partially filled with glass. Gigli asked the crew foreman if he could clear the glass. The foreman agreed on the condition that his wife be included in the photograph. Luckily for Gigli she was an attractive brunette and he placed her third from the left on the third floor. (She wears a green dress.)
This photo has won the distinction of being one of the best photographs taken by a professional photographer during the last 40 years. " www.peterfetterman.com
